Louise Konrad
Louise Konrad is an independent jewellery designer from Zurich based in London. Konrad’s drive to create bold, classic designs was second nature and has continued to evolve into a brand that promotes individuality and integrity. Every piece is hand made from recycled precious metals and gemstones sourced from Hatton Garden, London.Growing up in a small village in Switzerland, Louise Konrad’s creativity blossomed influenced by the nature surrounding her Swiss home and her Thai roots. Splitting her time between the two, she noticed how the overarching contrast helped create her unique and individualistic style.

Q.1.
How do you ensure your voice in translated visually in a global market?
I don’t really think of it that way. I just start by asking myself what I would buy, like or find cool and make it my voice. If it translates globally then I was just lucky. But authenticity is never not eye-catching.

Q.2.
Do you consider your style to be a part of your voice?
Yes, absolutely. It is a form of expression after all, and therefore it is also a form of communication. I’m not
much into talking, so that voice you’re referring to, becomes visual and haptic.

Q.3.
What do you consider to be most important when getting dressed? Aesthetics or honesty?
It’s definitely honesty, because I constantly ask myself do I really like these clothes, or is it social media influencing my opinion? Then answer it honestly. You have to love the thing you’re wearing, otherwise what are you doing?

Q.4.
As a multi-disciplonary creative, when do you feel most complete in your practice?
The most complete I feel, when I’m in a good rhythm and balance with my practice and personal life.

Q.5.
Travel is the ultimate means to bestowing upon us both cultural empathy and deeper understanding of our world, is there a place you have travelled to that has completely changed how you think and feel?
Yes, I think the most recent one was NYC. It was the only place in a long time where I felt intimidated again and I was like “Wow, this place is at least as crazy as London”. It’s like falling into a strong current and then swimming with it and even trying to beat it, because you might as well make the best out of it.

Q.6.
Where are you happiest?
Always around or inside a body of water.

Q.7.
Do you travel heavy or light?
I travel rather lightly, I would say. It depends on what the reason is for my trip, but I’ve recently become very fond of basic clothing and having less possessions.

Q.8.
What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learnt in your artists journey?
That artistic expression is food for the soul. It fulfills me and makes me feel like I actually live.

Q.9.
Can you give us three scenarios in which allterain would serve you best in your personal life and schedule?
Definitely when I cycle anywhere, when sitting outside a cafe and when I go on hikes in Switzerland.

Q.10.
We are designing to be the intelligent choice for those who are native to their terrain – what part of the AT range do you feel best represents your innate individual style?
The MIZUSAWA DOWN range would represent it the best, because I will always love a good puffer jacket.
